Last year, I decided I would run the Armed Force Series challenge to celebrate the 250th anniversary, or Semiquincentennial, of the United States Armed Forces. This challenge includes 5 different races, and I plan on running the following dates:
- Air Force Marathon on September 20, 2025
- Army Ten-Miler on October 12, 2025
- Marine Corps Marathon on October 26, 2025
- Space Force T-Minus 10-Miler on December 13, 2025
- Coast Guard Marathon (TBD) on March, 2026
In total, this will amount to 98.6 miles that I’ll be running. With this in mind, I’ve decided to estimate how many fallen U.S. servicemembers I’ll be honoring for every 0.1 mile. The initial estimate is between 1,215-1,250 lives lost for every 0.1 mile. There are some discrepancies between the numbers, and I’m working to see if I can get it as accurate as possible.
There are quite a few official lists, with the major list of casualties coming form the Defense Casualty Analysis System, with supporting information from the Defense department and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
My goal, and I don’t how possible this will be, is to create a tracker for while I’m running that updates live with the total casualties for the segments I’ve done, as well as sharing information about key battles or conflict that occur within each segment.
The hardest challenge I see for this is getting the Garmin live-tracking event updated before each race. So that’ll be the first hurdle I need to tackle.
I’ll do my best to keep everyone updated on the outcome.
